In 2004 I discovered that I was quite fast on the Concept 2 rowing machine, and 8 weeks later I entered the 35-39 Ladies Heavyweight category of the British Indoor Rowing Championships. I came away with a gold medal in a time of 7min 9sec and went on to win Gold at the European Championships in the 30-39 category in Paris in December 2004. Unfortunately an emergency hernia operation prevented me from competing at the World Championships in 2005. I had to take a break from rowing, but at the suggestion of a friend I entered my first bodybuilding competition in November 2005 and loved it! For the next 5 years I focused on this event. At some point in the future I would like to return to the rowing competitions. Through my work as a Strength & Conditioning coach I have developed a love of Olympic Weightlifting and have competed in Regional Open and National Masters Competitions. The speed and power required for Weightlifting provides a fantastic challenge. I feel very strongly that a coach should be able to "practice what I preach" and it's therefore important that I work hard in the gym and maintain my own strength and condition!! Outside of the gym, I play tennis and badminton and love snowboarding holidays with my family (even though I end up covered in bruises!)
